About TRANSSITioN
TRANSSITioN or TRAnsforming Cold Food Chains in INdia through Space ScIence and TechNologies is a research project funded by Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) under the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF). We are currently working with multiple stakeholders within the states of Telengana, Tamil Nadu and Delhi in India.
It is found that 90 percent of food wastage in developing countries occurs in the supply chain, most (47 percent) of which are in fresh fruits and vegetables – due to the lack of cold chain infrastructure, innovative business models, effective policies and knowledge gaps. Leveraging on advanced technological, supply chain, farming and policy making expertise from multidisciplinary stakeholders from the UK and India, the project aims at analysing the current state of cold food supply chain in India to evaluate transitions and transformative pathways to sustainable cold food chain systems in India.
